New Year’s Eve has always welcomed the next chapter, but for the Sydney Opera House, bringing in 2018 marked more than just a prime spot for viewing fireworks.

After seven months of closure, the curtain was raised on the $71 million dollar upgrade of the Joan Sutherland Theatre (JST) with a special New Year’s Eve performance of The Merry Widow – a new production by resident company, Opera Australia.
